The North Sea island of Texel in the north-east of the Netherlands is characterized by its diverse natural landscape. Oudeschild is the only village on the island that is directly on the sea - the IJsselmeer. The secluded village is primarily known for its fishing, and there are several restaurants serving fresh fish specialties at the harbour. On a tour of the island, you can discover the most beautiful spots of this wonderful natural paradise and get to know the entire island of Texel.
As the oldest town in Friesland, Stavoren looks back on a rich and fascinating history. Right at the harbour, you are greeted by the statue of the legendary "Lady of Stavoren" with her pointed hat, gazing longingly out over the water. Water is ever present in the beautiful Hanseatic city on the IJsselmeer, also known as the "Copenhagen of Friesland", with lighthouses, water sports, beaches and boating. In addition to the colourful houses on the harbour, Stavoren has much more to offer, such as the modern blockhouse (a former fortress of Charles V), a giant fish head as a fountain or the charming town centre.
In the province of Overijssel lies the lively Hanseatic city with its impressive bridges like the “Stadsbrug” with the golden wheels. The traditional history of Kampen is evident in the remarkable buildings and monuments in the city center, which is one of the best preserved in the Netherlands. Here you will also find remains of the city wall with the three distinctive and well-preserved city gates Koornmarktspoort, Cellebroederpoort and Broederpoort.
The centuries-old Hanseatic city lies on the river IJssel and can look back on a rich history, which is reflected everywhere in the city. Charming monuments and special sights characterize Deventer, such as the architecturally exceptional town hall and the Gothic Lebuinus Church. Relaxed shopping, a leisurely coffee or relaxing in nature along the IJssel - there is something for everyone in Deventer. Food tip: Be sure to try the real "Deventer koek" in the Koekwinkel!
The Hanseatic city is in a picturesque river landscape between the Rhine, the Meuse and the Wal and calls itself the oldest city in the Netherlands. During a walk you will come across numerous remains from the time of the Roman Empire - Nijmegen served the Romans as an important economic center. Many cozy squares, parks and delightful cafes invite you to linger, historic buildings and sights to marvel at. Or a little shopping stroll through the oldest shopping street in Holland, the Lange Hezelstraat?
